Philanthropy is a very important part of our lives. Bonnie and I have both contributed time and talents through board service over the last 40 years and now have the opportunity to contribute more from the treasury to causes that are important. In 2005 we created a family foundation that is administered by The Gulf Coast Community Foundation headquartered in Venice Florida, the island we call home. The primary areas of support over the past several years have been the arts, education, food banks, and coastal and marine research.
One idea we developed for the first book in the 3 Musketeers series, “Broken Trust,” was to offer to name a character in exchange for a donation to our foundation. This was a very successful initiative and we plan to continue this practice in subsequent books. The next installment, “Broken Web,” will be released in 2015. If you or someone you know would like to be memorialized in literature while supporting charitable causes please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We plan to donate at least 10% of the net proceeds from our writing adventure to these causes. If you find that our philanthropic endeavor is interesting you can make a donation to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation through the following web link. Once on the site you can select our fund, or any other that interests you, from the pulldown menu about halfway down the center of the page labeled “Fund.” Our foundation is named “Michael T. and Bonnie B. Hartley Foundation Fund.”
Thanks for reading this and considering the part that philanthropy plays in your life!
